Sinai

Taking a long distance bus from Cairo to the Sinai. In the previous year, Sharm El Sheikh, my original destination, had been bombed. and I decided to stay away from it. The bus went through there, but just loaded and unloaded passengers. I opted for Dhahab, a small and relatively new tourist spot, which also features a blue hole, as do other dive locations. Depicted here is a reststop for driver and passengers.

My first, ever, glimpse of the Red Sea along the Suez Canal

This places me just about at the southern tip of the Sinai peninsula

Dhahab, a very laid back scuba dive location.

Some restaurants, a few hostels, drive shops, small stores and a little supermarket was pretty much it. Less than a week after I left, the supermarket, where I shopped nearly every day, was blown up by Islamic terrorists. Over 20 people died and more than that were injured. I heard the news within a couple of days after arriving in Jordan.

A little paradise at the edge of a harsh desert. In the distance, across the Gulf of Aqabah, Saudi Arabia, Aqabah, Jordan, would be toward the very left side of the picture.
